About this video: This is an old video, one of the first Looking to Bounce videos that I put together. The quality is trash, but I still want to share it because going through it was a lot and I think perhaps other folks who are going through this can relate. To prepare for this VFS immigration appointment that will result in you getting your visa or not getting it, is super stressful. We had to pull together so much paperwork and ump through many a hoop. Then travel with out kids to San Francisco to ump through more hoops. It was exhausting. And there was so much riding on it from an emotional level, that it was really a lot. Then after the meeting we were stressed about when out visa would come and in tern, when we could fly out, rent out house, etc. We ultimately received out visas 65 days from when we applied, which was a blessing, but we know many people that it tool way longer for. So here was our journey. I can't believe that was almost 10 months ago and now we are living here in Portugal...Nuts! And what's the experience like for those of us who identify as biracial? After six months of soaking up the sun and culture in Portugal, I'm reflecting on this aspect of our move abroad. What being black in America, looked like, felt like, and meant to me, is something that I've really been grappling with over the last 10 years. And for my husband and I, raising children in the US, especially ones of color, it's something we had a lot of feelings about. So much so that we were compelled to try leaving to see if we could give them and ourselves a different way of life by moving abroad to the European country of Portugal to live as digital nomad expats. So 6 months in, I have thoughts about the experience in Portugal as a black woman, as one half of an interracial couple and marriage, and for my kids.
